Beta-glucans and immune modulation
Zivolife contains beta-glucans at a concentration more than three times higher than spirulina. Beta-glucans are a class of soluble fiber with a well-documented role in immune function.
Beta-glucans bind to pattern recognition receptors on macrophages and other innate immune cells, stimulating their activity without triggering an inflammatory cascade. This mechanism is described as immune modulation rather than immune stimulation — the distinction matters because the goal is a calibrated, responsive immune system, not a chronically activated one.
Research has documented beta-glucan effects on macrophage activation, cytokine signaling, and natural killer cell function. Pheophorbide a and the inflammatory pathway
A 2020 peer-reviewed study from the National Center for Natural Products Research at the University of Mississippi identified pheophorbide a as the most potent anti-inflammatory compound in Zivolife (Qiu et al., Molecules, 25(5), 1048).
Pheophorbide a is a chlorophyll-derived compound that inhibits inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) at an IC50 of 0.24µM. iNOS is a primary molecular driver of the inflammatory response. Chronic iNOS overactivation contributes to tissue damage and immune dysfunction. Pheophorbide a also demonstrated inhibition of NF-kB, a central transcription factor that regulates the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Carotenoids and mucosal barrier support
Zivolife contains a documented carotenoid profile including beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin. Beta-carotene is a precursor to vitamin A, which plays a well-established role in maintaining mucosal integrity across the gut lining, respiratory tract, and skin. These mucosal surfaces are the body's first physical barrier against pathogens. The lipid fraction of Zivolife includes alpha-linolenic acid, the plant-sourced omega-3 fatty acid, alongside linoleic acid and a small GLA fraction. Omega-3 fatty acids are incorporated into immune cell membranes, where they influence membrane fluidity and the efficiency of receptor signaling. They also serve as precursors to anti-inflammatory eicosanoids, contributing to the resolution of inflammatory responses rather than their escalation.
US Patent Protected
Zivolife's algal biomass from Klebsormidium species is US Patent Protected, covering its use in food and nutritional applications and specifically recognizing its role in supporting general health and immune function. No other commercially available product contains this specific organism.
Safety
A 90-day subchronic oral toxicity study established a No-Observed-Adverse-Effect Level of 9.7g per kilogram body weight per day, more than 1,000 times a typical daily serving. Non-mutagenic on both Ames assay and micronucleus assay. GRAS certified under 21 CFR §170.30(b).
